Petroleum Potentials of the Nigerian Benue Trough and Re evaluation of Sedimentary Thickness and Curie Point
A review on the geology and petroleum potentials of the Nigerian Benue Trough and Anambra Basin is done to identify potential petroleum systems in the basins The tectonic stratigraphic and organic geochemical evaluations of these basins suggest the similarity with the contiguous basins of Chad and Niger Republics and Sudan where commercial oil discovery have been madeFig1 shows the study area and the regional geology of the Lower Benue trough The geological map Fig 2 of the study was extracted from the regional geologic map and redigitized using the Arc GIS software for enhanced interpretation of the aeromagnetic map Visually inspecting the map shows five main formations within the study area

Interpretation of Airborne Magnetic Data of Upper Benue Assessment of the petroleum coal and geothermal resources
This study throws more lights on the magnetic nature of the upper Benue with the identification of NE SW trending faults in the area which correlate with the geology of the area This shows that the Benue Trough trends NE SW and have the same structural control as the Benue TroughIt is inferred however from the few values available and the regional geology that the development of geothermal resources in general would be uneconomical Exceptions may include a geopressured zone in the Niger Delta and areas of recent tectonic activity in the Benue Trough and Cameroon
